A backup destination beside the workstation
This example is aimed at copying projects from an existing working drive, such as your editing SSD. A pair of hard drives is not a promise of real-time performance for demanding multi-stream editing. If the enclosure becomes the only location of your footage, it is primary storage and needs a separate backup of its own.
Why these components
D2-320 provides two SATA bays, a USB-C 10Gbps connection and hardware RAID 1. TerraMaster lists WD80EFPX as recommended for D2-320 in its drive compatibility table, checked September 13, 2026. Actual copy speed depends on the drives, file mix, host and USB port; 10Gbps describes the connection, not guaranteed hard-drive throughput.
Use the mirror deliberately
RAID 1 keeps both drives in the same enclosure synchronized and yields one drive’s capacity. Deleting a project can delete it on both members. Configure scheduled, versioned backups from your workstation and keep a second copy away from the enclosure. RAID changes and initialization can erase existing data, so follow the manufacturer’s setup instructions.
Check the host before ordering
Confirm a suitable data-capable USB port, supported operating system and filesystem for your workflow. Plan how Windows and macOS machines will access the data if you use both. A USB-C connector alone does not specify transfer speed. Keep the enclosure powered and connected for scheduled backup jobs to complete.
When another enclosure makes sense
Choose a NAS if several machines need independent network access without relying on your workstation. Consider an NVMe enclosure for a fast scratch workspace, with a separate backup plan. A four- or six-bay DAS can hold more disks, but models such as D4-320 and D6-320 do not include hardware RAID.
