What to Check Before Buying
A SAS drive needs compatible controller and backplane support. A normal motherboard SATA port cannot operate it.
Request available health and test information. Power-on hours and SMART data are useful evidence, but neither guarantees remaining life.
Verify the seller, return period and warranty for the exact offer. A datasheet's new-drive manufacturer warranty may not apply.
Used and new drives both need backups. RAID or ZFS redundancy does not protect against every deletion, controller problem or site failure.
