Disk Scout ("we", "us", "our") operates the website located at disk-scout.com (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have in relation to it.

By using Disk Scout, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service.

2. Information We Collect

Browsing Disk Scout does not require account registration. Our browsing analytics do not ask for your name, email address or payment information. They process the technical usage data described below.

We use first-party analytics stored in Supabase and Vercel Web Analytics to understand site usage. Our first-party events record:

• The public page visited and the referring site; new first-party events omit URL queries and fragments
• Amazon link activations, including the public source page, product ASIN and marketplace; we do not receive your Amazon identity or order details through these events
• Country (and region), derived from your network connection at the edge — we never store your IP address
• Browser/device type, in broad categories (e.g. mobile vs. desktop)
• A pseudonymous daily visitor identifier (see below)

This identifier is a one-way hash of your IP address, browser, and a secret salt, combined with the current UTC date. It changes every day and is not intended to identify you personally. Browser-reported pageviews and link activations are recorded separately from server requests, so cached pages and crawled links do not get combined into one buying metric. This browser measurement does not use cookies or browser storage and respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control.

Links from our ads can include a campaign marker. We carry that marker through public site links and use a campaign-specific Amazon Associates tracking ID to compare aggregate commissions with advertising costs. The marker is shared by everyone in that campaign, is not a personal identifier, and is not saved in cookies or browser storage. This attribution respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Amazon handles purchases under its own privacy policy.

3. Cookies

Our first-party analytics do not use cookies or browser storage. Browser storage is used for preferences such as your theme and saved products, separately from analytics. Administrator sign-in uses a session cookie.

4. Affiliate Links & Third-Party Sites

Disk Scout participates in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program. Product links on this site direct to Amazon. When you click a link and complete a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

When you click through to Amazon, you leave Disk Scout and are subject to Amazon's own Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of Amazon or any other third-party sites.

Our affiliate relationship does not influence product rankings or recommendations. All products are sorted by price per terabyte without any paid placement.

5. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and United Kingdom, we process the aggregate analytics described in Section 2 under legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — basic audience measurement (how many people visit, which pages and products are popular) needed to run the site, using a pseudonymous identifier that resets daily. No cookie or device storage is used by our first-party analytics.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

• Right of access — Request a copy of data we hold about you.
• Right to erasure — Request deletion of your data.
• Right to object — Object to our processing of aggregate analytics on legitimate-interest grounds.
• Right to lodge a complaint — Contact your local data protection authority.

In practice we have no way to look up "your" data specifically — the visitor identifier is a one-way hash that resets daily and was never linked to a name, email, or account in the first place. Contact us (Section 12) with any request and we'll do what we reasonably can.

7. Data Retention

Disk Scout does not retain personal data. Aggregate analytics events (page/country/anonymized visitor identifier — see Section 2) are stored on our own infrastructure and are not shared with or sold to any third party.

8. Data Security

Disk Scout is served over HTTPS. Our analytics data is stored on our own database, not with a third-party analytics provider. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of any data transmitted.

9. Children's Privacy

Disk Scout does not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to remove such information.

10. Price Accuracy Disclaimer

Prices displayed on Disk Scout are for informational purposes only and are sourced from Amazon via affiliate data feeds. Prices may be outdated, incorrect, or subject to change without notice. Disk Scout makes no warranty, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any price information displayed.

Disk Scout shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising from reliance on price information displayed on this site. Always verify the current price on Amazon before completing a purchase.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
