What to Check Before Buying a 8TB SATA SSD
TLC drives sustain writes better and last longer. QLC is cheaper per TB but slows sharply once its cache fills - acceptable for bulk storage, not for an OS drive.
Budget DRAM-less SATA drives can stutter under load. For a boot drive, a DRAM-equipped model is worth the small premium.
All SATA SSDs advertise ~550 MB/s, but cheap models fall to 100 MB/s or less after the SLC cache is exhausted. Reviews reveal this, spec sheets do not.
