Two drives or four?

Two 10TB drives in RAID 1 provide 10TB before overhead. Four in RAID 5 provide 30TB; RAID 6 or RAID 10 provides 20TB. Set aside capacity and budget for a separate backup.

SATA or SAS?

An inexpensive SAS enterprise drive cannot run from a SATA-only NAS or motherboard. Match the exact model and supported controller before comparing prices.
